This past week, I've done some things that have made me wonder if I'm getting dumber. When I shared this with a friend, he told me that it comes with age. Well, I must have done some considerable aging this week, cause I cannot believe how long it took me to realize something was wrong with shawl v.2.

I finally picked the
dancing cranes shawl as THE one for my skein of silk. And I cast on 300 sts, and started knitting. It thought of why I would be casting on 300 sts for a shawl vaguely wandered through my mind, but I put it off by saying that it had been a while since I'd made a rectangular shawl and clearly I'd forgotten just how tiny those stitches are. 10 rows in, I took a break and went back to the ravelry galleries.
This shawl is knit sideways.
Firstly, why doesn't it say that anywhere?? And secondly, why didn't I realize?? Gah. I've been trying to figure out how long it will turn out because I'm using 3.25mm needles (instead of 4.5mms). My calculations say around 54" (I'm getting about 2" per repeat), but now I'm wondering if that's long enough for my taste. I suppose I could always add to the width and then block it longer, and I think that's what I'll probably what I'll end up doing. Because seriously? How many times could I possibly frog this thing and still have the silk look gorgeous and shiny? Mostly I don't want to rip it cause it's taken me surprisingly long to knit it. Lesson learned. Swatch with expensive yarns. Boo!
